Basilique St Denis - half day
Visit the burial grounds of the ancient Kings of France from Dagobert I (ruled 629 – 639) to Louis the XVIII (ruled from 1814-1824). Their tombs and mausoleums constitute one of Europe ’s most important collections of funerary sculpture.
This Gothic structure changed the face of western architecture and it was, the first major structure to be built in the Gothic style (before the Notre Dame). It still has its 12th century stained glass (older than La Chapelle) and has a fascinating history, including the burial pit and what happened to it during the French Revolution.
